Collaboration with Katie Griffith Morgan

Through the Lens (2020)

Working with Edinburgh designer, Katie Griffith Morgan, we collaborated on a photoshoot intended to be used to illustrate the development of her graduate collection, and also be etched, printed, and cut into final garments of the collection. Katie explored a balance between the traditional and futuristic through laser-etched textiles. To find the imagery for the prints, she scoured through discarded negatives. Focusing on the anonymity and distortion of donated negatives, we created our own images replicating processes of damaged analog film pieces through a digital lens and digital manipulation. Matching the obscure anonymous imagery to more personal, intimate etched images of Katie's body.

The images were intended to be portraits of Katie, stylised in a way similar to that of damaged found film Katie had been experimenting with. However, leaving the portraits ambiguous enough they weren't immediately recognisable as the designer.
